The swenkas are a small group of Zulu working men which formed in South Africa following the abolishment of Apartheid. The men follow certain set values of Swanking, such as physical cleanliness, sobriety and above all self-respect. The swenka could be compared to the sapeurs but i think the sapeur took it to another level practically hoisting European haute couture designer fashions to the status of mock religion. Post Colionalism definatly brought some intresting forms of black self representation and alot of black men adhered to a subculture of high fashion which was often against a back drop of extreme poverty.
